What is dental trauma?
Here at Crescent Valley Dental we are equipped to handle most dental emergencies including dental trauma. Many children are at risk for dental trauma due to falling or playing sports. Our clinic offers extended hours to triage and assess these dental emergencies for our patients.
Dental Trauma examples:
· Tooth avulsion (knocked out tooth)
· Tooth intrusion (pushed into gum)
· Tooth displacement
· Tooth extrusion (tooth is hanging down)
· Tooth knocked loose
· Chipped tooth
· Cracked tooth
· Alveolar “bone” fracture
· Jaw fractures
· Lacerations in oral cavity
What to do when dental trauma occurs?
Stop. Assess situation. Get help Depending on the type and degree of dental trauma, most can be treated at our clinic.
What should I do if I knocked my tooth out?
· This is a true dental emergency
· Do not attempt to clean tooth
· Put tooth back in socket if possible, in milk or keep in saliva
· Every minute counts...It needs to be placed back in socket by dental professional in less than 1 hour for best prognosis
· It will require splint stabilization at initial visit.
· It will require root canal at initial visit or subsequent visit
