It is recommended that you schedule annual dental examinations if you are denture patient. During the annual examination, the dentist will evaluate the fit of the denture, check for oral cancer, and recommend dental procedures such as relines to ensure a tighter fit and better chewing function.
Call our office today if you have having to use excessive amounts of adhesive (Fixodent, Poligrip etc.) A denture reline may resolve this issue.
Never Sleep with dentures in mouth. This can damage your gums and result in fungal infections inside of your mouth. If you sleep with dentures in mouth, it can cause a condition called Epulis Fissaratum which will result in surgical removal.
If you received "same day" dentures "Immediate dentures which are placed on the same day as extractions. It is recommended to leave denture in mouth for 24 hours prior to removing dentures. This ensures blood clots and ridges maintain shape. Immediate dentures act as a bandage.
Clean denture with soft tooth brush, preferably a "denture brush".
Store appliance in fresh water in denture cup at night and when not wearing it. Always keep moist. Always rinse dentures before putting back in mouth.
Clean your mouth after removing your dentures. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush on natural teeth and gauze or a soft toothbrush to clean your tongue, cheeks and roof of your mouth (palate). If used, remove any remaining denture adhesive from your gums.
Keep dentures away from pets

Handle dentures carefully to avoid dropping
Do not use whitening toothpastes and abrasive toothpastes on dentures
Avoid bleach containing products and hot water on denture
Brush your dentures at least daily. Remove and gently clean your dentures daily. Soak and brush them with a soft-bristled brush and nonabrasive denture cleanser to remove food, plaque and other deposits. If you use denture adhesive, clean the grooves that fit against your gums to remove any remaining adhesive. Don't use denture cleansers inside your mouth.
